It's been a while!

Hey everyone!

So it's been a little over a month now from the last post. Things have been really, really busy. I am really enjoying my time out here as a teacher! I have met so many cool people out here now and have a pretty solid group of friends here in my city. It really cool meeting people from all over the world, hearing stories and telling mine. Over the weeks I have become known as "Canada" to some and am proud to be called it! T-Dot has to show 'em how it's done!!! Oh man, where to start. So many trips, so many weekends. A few of us also get together on Wednesday nights for dinner and sometimes pool - of course I'm still the BEST at all games! Came second in bowling though, but that's OK. In this post I will be showing you guys some photos and video of my weekend in Suwon a neighboring city, including my visit to Hwaseong fortress and the LIVE soccer match I attended! Also I attended the Lotus Lantern Festival - this festival celebrated the birthday of the Buddha. Korea has a very big Buddhist population and the festival was awesome, live music, a tent city, where each tent had a different thing to discover! I partook in a traditional tea ceremony, meditated for 5 mins (felt waaaay longer than that, but in a good way) among many other things! Every day there is something new - it's really great out here - oh - and I'm really BALLING out of control!

So I'm change the format a little bit. Gonna go through all the pics, and then hit the videos. Also, I'm gonna break up the posts because I don't want you to have to sit there for THAT long! hah.

ENJOY!!!

HWASEONG FORTRESS - SUWON

In front of the fortress there is a mini-market resembling and old-school flea-market where you can buy little knick-knacks and clothing. Actually most of the clothing is donated and reminds me of Value Village back home.

These painted etchings are part of a HUGE picture that covers a vast piece of ground before climbing up the mountain to the fortress. It is a beautiful Murial.

This is a miniature of the fortress. Hwaseong (Brilliant Fortress), the wall surrounding the center of Suwon, South Korea, was built in the late eighteenth century by King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty to honour and house the remains of his father Prince Sado, who had been murdered by being locked alive inside a rice chest by his own father King Yeongjo having failed to obey his command to commit suicide. Located 30 kilometres south of Seoul and enclosing much of central Suwon including King Jeongjo's palace Haenggung, UNESCO designated the fortress a World Heritage site in 1997. The Suwoncheon, the main stream in Suwon, flows through the center of the fortress. It is kinda cool seeing the fortress encase the city. Kind of a clash between old school and new school.

Me and my boy, the Architect. Actually, during the Korean war this fortress was destroyed....Only the fantastic blueprints left behind by this guy allowed for a reconstruction of the wall around the city.Stairs, dirt, UP UP UP! Gotta love climbing mountains!!!!

Cherry blossom trees, a reminder of Japan's influence in Korean history.

Oh what a VIEW! The city of Suwon from the top of the mountain!
The tower at the top of the mountain where many are taking a much deserved rest.
These trees are really beautiful at the start of spring.

Scattered along the route are many look out towers and many archer spots for spotting and picking off the enemy. It's easy to see why nobody tried to infiltrate this fortress while the king was within the walls, they would have died.
That's the mountain from the ground.

A nice little look at all the different kinds of trees that grow on the mountain.

The wind started to blow and it was like it was snowing! The cherry blossom petals began to drop, it was very beautiful.

We would have taken this crazy dragon train ride around the mountain but the tickets for the next ride was too late..........there's always next time!

Next post I will show you guys the soccer match I attended in Suwon, it's pretty cool cause we were in the cheering section!

Don't forget to comment! It's nice to hear from you guys! PEACE!
